At the end of XVIII century a large part of Calabria, a region of southern Italy, was hit by a massive earthquake. The area around the small town of Oppido Mamertina, the epicenter of the earthquake, was dramatically marked by it in its geology and in its history. The human memory of the event has almost dissolved. The only visible signs of this remote event are the white scars on the mountain ridges and the remains of a town that over the centuries has gained a new life. There are nevertheless some historical images left and invisible presences that return, intertwine and manifest themselves in various ways. A subtle connection links an episode suspended between chronicle, legend and present times: the German bard J. W. Goethe looking at the sky from Weimar predicted the earthquake and, many years later, not far from Oppido Mamertina, a group of people gathered to pray together and turned their faces towards the sun.
